Does Your Cat Love You?

Yesterday my cat jumped up on my lap, nuzzled her nose against me for a bit, and then curled up and made herself comfortable.

It certainly seems that she loves me. But does she really love me? What is love like for animals? Do insects feel love?

I have now looked into these questions, so that you don’t have to.

The answer, as to cat love, is: maybe. I have assembled my new knowledge into handy compartments so that you can skim for what you are after. I know you are busy.

Does Your Cat Love You?

Your cat probably likes you, at least, and considers you its pet. Pet and servant. She likes to hang around with you on occasion and likes that you look after meals. She likes your warm lap—if she is in the mood.

Does Your Dog Love You?

Absolutely! Google says that these are some of the signs your dog loves you:• Enthusiastic greetings—including a happy dance, jumping, or intense tail wagging when you show up• They lean against you to give you the best they can in the way of a hug• They follow you from room to room and hang around• They share massive amounts of dog hair with you, just so that you will have something to vacuum

Further, while we are at it:

Does Your Wife Love You?

Here is what to look for, again from Google, plus my own astute observations:

• She is kind to you

• She says “I love you”

• She wants to hold your hand, or she hugs you from behind, or steals a kiss

• She is patient

• She respects you

• She seduces you when the opportunity arises

• She thinks about you and tries to please you, for example with a lace garment

• She has a good sense of humour and finds a way for you to be right now and then

Does Your Husband Love You?

The signs to watch for:

• He is kind to you

• He loves to hang around with you

• He pitches in to help out with the chores

• He comforts you when you are having a bad day

• He is good to your children

• You can rely on him

• His plans for the future include you

• He seduces you too

• If anyone is mean to you, he will beat them up

Do Insects Feel Love?

Let me summarize my findings, after skimming over a lot of pages—which is my normal MO for research: no. They are more like robots.

Do Elephants Feel Love?

Yes—and hate, too. There are many stories about the tenderness that elephants can demonstrate toward other elephants and toward their handlers. But on the other side, there are impressive stories about elephants, and groups of elephants, turning murderous to punish humans for cruelty. Elephants never forget.

Of course, neither do wives.
